  • Journalism and mass communication looks similar. Both are entirely different streams.
  • It is like a Films and Documentary. But different in terms of shots, scripts, etc.
  • Mass communication deals with communicating to the masses through communication mediums or channels. The communication channels include mediums like web and production, television, print, radio, etc.
  • Journalism deals with the art of gathering news. This includes real news from any sector like science, education, entertainment, investigation, politics, etc.
  • Mass communication is actually communicating to masses. It choosing a channel to send messages to multiple numbers of peoples. Journalism is one of the examples of mass communication.
  • Films, Public relations, Advertising, Television, etc are the other examples of mass communication.
  • Journalism is actually compilation and transmission of news through print media, electronic media, etc which includes research and formal way of writing.
  • The duties of journalists include collecting, writing, and distributing the news and sharing current information to the public.
  • Mass communication is broader than journalism. 
  • Mass communication is a process of sending or conveying or transmitting a message to the public or general population or large group of peoples or organizations through a channel like radio, newspapers, internet, magazines, etc.

  • However, Journalism is a process of collecting, writing, distributing the news, and other information to the public.

Duties And Responsibilities of a journalist

  • A journalist should have responsibilities towards people.
  • A journalist should accept suggestions and instructions from the editorial hierarchy of his newspaper.
  • Privacy of the peoples is important If they are relevant to the public interest.
  • A journalist should have Legal Responsibilities and Ethical Responsibilities.
  • A journalist should make important news more interesting.
  • A journalist should respect people, their rights to secrecy, and dignity.
  • A journalist should not discriminate against anyone due to his religion, race, discrimination, political views, physical conditions, etc.
  • Accept comments, opinions belonging to criticism and right of speech, etc.
  • A journalist has to respect the transparency of sources.
